I think that bird is your best bet and I also suggest a male Cockatoo… the male birds will be trainable to talk or even wistle songs for you they are very friendly birds that require attention though. They get lonly and like to have things going on around them. Like humans they are social animals. If that kind of bird is not appealing then maybe a regular canary or finch. I would say cat cause I love cats and think they are the best pets ever. but for what you have stated as requirements a bird probably is the way to go. Fish always rock and you can get some that are super easy to care for. The main thing to remember is that, no matter what kind of pet you get, you have to take care of it. Reptiles, birds, and mammals are harder to care for than fish. My ex-hubby used to breed bettas. They are so easy. They can live in tap water that gets changed once a week if there’s no filter. With a filter, you pretty much don’t have to change the water. I loved having fish because they are fun to watch and they don’t require much attention.
I would recommend talking to someone at a pet store to help make your final decision. Make that decision based on how much time you want to put into taking cake of the pet and how much money you want to spend.

A ferret. If properly taken care of they don’t smell. They are curious, play and fun in general. Can be let out of a cage to roam – litter box trained…..

Well, if you want a fun and energetic pet to play with, I suggest female rats. They are funny to watch, very smart, and do play. They don’t smell if you clean their cage throughouly often. If you want a more snuggle pet try male rats (this is a generalization) or a guinea pig.

Please, do NOT get a ferret. Ferrets are great pets, but they will always smell like ferrets. Also, thoug potty trainable, they will never be 100% and will occasionally miss. Unless you can pay to replace the carpet, don’t even think about it.
Besides all that, a ferret cannot be kept in a cage all the time. They need at least 4 hours of playtime outside the cage.
Get a cockatiel, they will talk and are very entertaining.

why not get a mouse… They are very clever, you can play with them and they are very friendly.. Contrary to belief they dont smell if you keep their house clean…cages are so advanced these days and very easy to clean..I always had a pet mouse at kinder and the children loved it…so did i…

I recommend a pet rat better have two females dont like to be cuddled a lot whereas males seem to be more laid back if you keep their cages clean they dont smell mice smell cause they constantly piddle whereas rats dont [unless scared] my girls are the most loving caring devoted pets ive ever had and i love them to bits as i said the only time they smell is if i dont clean their cage they themselves actually have quite a nice smell but i dont know about males always have had females [unless they come into the rescue but they are not 'my' ratties]

i would say a either a tortoise, a leopard ghecko or a couple of gold fish. al relavitvely easy to keep and dont make much mess or noise.

Cats a great because they do well in small spaces and are very independent, but having a litter box inside can kinda smell unless it is well hidden. Birds are kinda messy so I wouldn’t suggest one. Rodents like mice and hamsters could be kinda cool as long as you keep their cage really clean. Reptiles require a lot of TLC and maintenance to keep them healthy so they might not be the best. Personally I would go for the cat. Try to find one with a laid back personality from a local shelter or rescue group.
