How Will A Pet Insurer Find Out If A Condition That Arises While I Am Insured Is Pre-exisiting?
Im trying to find a good plan, but my puppy has been treated once for allergies, and i know alot of pet insurance companies do not cover pre existing conditions, but how will they know?
When you submit a claim to your pet insurance company, they look at your pet’s veterinary records (and the bill that you are claiming itself) so they would be able to tell if it was pre-existing.
I would suggest you enroll your pet now, anyway. The longer you wait, the more you are risking other conditions that then wouldn’t be covered if you later enroll your puppy. It’s definitely a good idea to consider, I have Trupanion Pet Insurance for my dog Ellie and I like them a lot.
If you enroll in a plan and suddenly have claims for very expensive treatment of a certain condition, they may request vet records to determine if it was pre-existing. That might not occur with something like allergies (unless you immediately filed claims for expensive treatment by a specialist) but if you suddenly filed claims for surgical repair of a case of hip dysplasia shortly after enrolling, they would likely take notice.
Pet insurance, to me is a scam… just so you know…
I had a friend who tried to convince me over and over again to get pet insurance… she was paying about $50 a month, and the payback was very minimal…. i told her to do the math — she was paying $600 a year, when her vet bills weren’t nearly that much, and the reimbursements were very very low.
I think it would be easier to save $50 a month, and use it as needed for a pet.
To answer your question, i think some conditions are obviously pre-existing.. others, not so much… so if your dog has had allergies, you don’t have to say he did, i guess… you could act as if you don’t know what’s wrong and why he has the symptoms.
