How Does A Person Get Pet Grooming Experience?
I’ve noticed that all of the ads for pet groomer positions require experience and none seem to offer on-the-job training.

At the larger pet store, like petco and petsmart, you dont need experience. You start off as a bather, then can take classes to be a groomer. The schooling is free and you get paid to go. I started a month ago at Petco, with only cashiering experience. It can be done. However, volunteer somewhere. Volunteering counts as experience. Good Luck!
Ah…that is how it is with most working environments. You can’t get the job until you have the experience, and you can’t get the experience until you have the job.
I suggest trying to volunteer your time either at an animal shelter or where you are looking to work, to learn.

if you get used to it, you will know what positions to get
Go to all of the local groomers in your area and apply as a bather. You will get a taste of what the job consists of.
If you are still interested after about 4-5 months in becoming a groomer, then go to school. You can do a google search for the schools closest to you.
I would strongly suggest becoming a bather first.
Call around to some of your local groomers. Especially if you have anyone in your area that grooms in peoples homes and ask if they would be willing to apprentice you. I know that my mom has groomed for 35 years and is looking to retire and has been looking for someone to apprentice with her and eventually take over her buisness. So I am sure there are other goomers out there like that. I hope this may help you.
Some Master groomers offer training. There are schools do some surfing under Grooming Schools. Ask at a local Petco if they have a groomer speak with them. You can make some good money if you are good but it’s a hard, dirty and smelly job! You must be patient, love animals and strong stomach.
